Sunrise on the Hawaiian island of Kauai brings crashing waves to the battered south shore. Nearby can be found the details of life here: tidepools, endangered Hawaiian Monk Seals, flowers, and the famous Grand Canyon of the Pacific – Waimea Canyon.
Meanwhile hundreds of miles to the southeast – the Big Island’s Kilauea volcano reveals new growth struggling to survive in an otherworldly landscape. Twenty years ago this rainforest was destroyed by lava – but the rains continue. In thousands of years the forest will return.
This ambient film ‘Islands of Fire’ is unnarrated and put to music and on-location natural sounds to help you feel like you’re really there. It is the culmination of a year of projects filming on the Big Island and Kauai – and blends calm tropical landscapes with the destructive forces that created them.
